Annual First Year Engineering Conference
April 2025 | Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States of America
• Research Title: “Direct Methanol Fuel Cells as an Alternative Energy Source for the Disadvantaged.”
• Held at the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering.
• Objective: To evaluate the feasibility of implementing DMFCs in disadvantaged communities lacking in energy infrastructure.
• Collaborated and led a group of four freshmen engineering students in examining the feasibility of implementing direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs) as a power source for disadvantaged communities.
o Provided a detailed demonstration of DMFCs, their energy generation process, and the resources required in implementing these fuel cells.
o Assessed the feasibility of implementing DMFCs by analyzing four case studies testing their operation.
o Presented findings and conclusions to peers, professors, and industry partners.
• Skills involved: Research and writing skills, quantitative analysis
• Awards received: Best Paper in Chemical Engineering
